Hello Dear Friends
This week I listened to this podcast by Ram Dass. It got me thinking about the nature of time. I had a day last week where “I didn’t have enough time”. I got so tense, and worked up, I knew it must be a dysfunction in my mind. We live in a culture of “not enough time” and it takes strength of mind to command “Time stretches. I have just the amount of time I need. Time is my friend”.
Here’s a lovely song I sang with Kate Valentine’s Singing Mamas group in Forest Row.
by Jody Viner all about slow time.. “We are moving in Oak Time. Like a Tree. Deeper Roots”
Ram Dass said that the two things that stretch time are Presence and Novelty. I find nature always brings me back to presence, and if you take time to notice it’s always new.
I have a favourite spot, that I like to sit in. There is a fallen log to perch myself on, whilst I look at the stream. This week I noticed that the trees all around, that treasured spot, are Alder trees. The Alder tree, according to Glennie Kindred, is associated with the fairy realms, protection and confidence. I loved reading this about Alder trees.
On Good Friday I took a nature walk with my family and found an egg shell from a Song Thrush. It absolutely captivated me, I took it home and made a little nest for it, and I’m going to put all my dreams inside it, which I hope will hatch this year.
In other news, this week I represented Singing Mamas at an interview with BBC Radio Kent. You can listen back on BBCSounds We are on the Dominic King show 25/03/24 and our segment starts at 1h37.
I have also launched a new class on Skillshare this week. In this class you can learn how to sing the harmony parts of all 10 songs from my new album. The harmonies were composed by the wonderful Miriam Cox and Emily Batesmith and in this class you will train your ear and your mind to sing in 3 part harmony. Find out more HERE
