Every new morning we get another chance
Every spring, we emerge from the darkness to give it another go

It really feels like spring is here (finally) and I feel renewed and inspired.

I have been involved in a huge pioneering project with Singing Mamas over the past month.

Kate Valentine, founder of Singing Mamas, is a former nurse. Over 10 years ago, whilst she was still nursing, she had one long and hard night sitting at the bedside of a sickly baby in the neonatal unit. She sang to the baby. There and then she realised “we need to get singing into the NHS”. This week I got to realise Kate’s vision, and as part of this project I sat in the neonatal intensive care unit, at the bedside of a lovely little boy, and his strong and caring mama. We know that singing soothes our nervous system. It’s a powerful gift to give, a moment of peace. The powerful effect of singing and music is starting to be explained by science.

This intensive project is a pilot, and I’m excited about what it could mean for the future.

I always knew in my heart about the therapeutic effect of music. It’s why I sing and write songs. I have slowly and patiently sang myself out of hard times. This project has been really precious to me. Music gives me so many good feelings, and I’m overjoyed to bring those good feelings to others.
