Dear Friends
I have become quite a moany person because, I am in a perpetual state of cold virus. The other day I went out to the woods and was moaning to myself. In my inside voice I said “How can I stop getting so many colds?” And then a mushroom said “Hello!”
I mean, the mushroom didn’t magically appear and verbally speak to me, but as I had the moany thought it hit me smack between the eyes. I took some photos, to identify it when I got home. After some careful research I learnt that it was a Birch Polypore. Birch Polypore are antiviral, antiseptic and antifungal. A piece of this special mushroom was found being carried on a leather thong with Ötzi the Iceman who died 5,300 years ago.
So I went back and picked the mushroom that had spoken to me. Then I sliced it, dried it, and I’m working on a double extracted tincture.

Then, rather than continuing whinging I tried to look into practical things I could do and found two interesting science podcasts by Andrew Huberman talking about immunity.
💊 How to prevent and treat colds and flus
💪🏻 Using your nervous system to enhance your immune system
At the bottom of this email I’ve listed the main things I learnt.
Enough about colds. What else?
I’ve carried on doing regular drawing in the evenings. Here are some from the past few weeks.

Do you love my bright, colourful and childish illustrations?
I have a special offer...
To build up my portfolio I am offering a small series of FREE portraits.
I will illustrate your portrait/family portrait for FREE, and you will receive a digital copy.
And then if you love it and want to buy the original A4 piece, you will be able to purchase the original. Find out more HERE
I'm also very slowly working on some new Skillshare classes. Sometimes it feels like I’m throwing these classes out into the void and I can’t feel the impact. I can see the stats that people are taking my classes, but I don’t often get feedback. So it truly made my day when I had some glowing feedback about my Gathered Skirt Class, and a beautiful picture of what my student made…
That’s all for now
LOVE ALWAYS WINS

XOXOXOXOXCold and Flu Virus Learnings
The main key take aways I got from these podcasts and other Google wormholes are-
There are over 200 strains of cold (I naively believed that I could just get all the colds and become immune)
My first line of defence is my skin barrier, which colds can’t get in. The viruses get into my eyes, nose and mouth so don’t touch them in public.
There is science showing that Wim Hof breathing enhances immunity so I’m getting back on that.
Your lymph system supports your immunity, so I’ve been trying out this face and neck massage and this full body massage
Spirulina has been scientifically proven to reduce nasal condition so I just bought some! I used to drink it when I lived in London but I forgot.
Exercise is good for your immunity (duh!) I go on long walks but haven’t been doing weight or any real cardio so I think I need to stop being a lazy bones and step it up.
Good sleep is very important for immunity (this annoys me as a parent to a young child I am often out of control of this)
Green tea is good. Drink more.
Ginger is good. Drink and eat more
I will start to implement these things. And I can’t wait to tell you that my colds have become less regular. Apparently Andrew Huberman only gets one every 18 months, that would be a dream come true.
